Evo najnovije obavijesti:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Greetings
Astronomy related news and events below...

1. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) we launched two public competitions with exciting awards: a trip to Paranal Observatory in Chile, being the first member of the public ever to decide what the Very Large Telescope (VLT) observes, the latest iPad and many other ESO products.
For choosing what the VLT should observe and winning an iPad please visit this page (http://www.eso.org/public/vote/eso50/) — Choose what the VLT observes!
To win a trip to Chile, all expenses paid, please visit this page (http://www.eso.org/public/outreach/50years/competitions/twitter.html) — Tweet your way to the VLT!
The competitions' deadline was 31 August 2012. More details can be found at the links above, as well as in this press release. (http://www.eso.org/public/news/eso1232/)

2. GLORIA has organized the next web broadcast. This time it will be the Northern Lights Expedition to Greenland:
http://gloria-project.eu/2012/08/shelios-en/
It is not as unique as the Venus Transit, but still may be quite spectacular, if the weather cooperates.

3. September 21, the International Day of Peace (Peace Day), is an opportunity for peacemakers around the world to replace world conflict with world friendship. The international organization StarPeace will celebrate this day by organizing mutual public star parties near the borders of neighboring countries. Astronomers Without Borders will join hands with StarPeace as a partner organization to celebrate the ‘Peace Day’. We invite AWB friends around the world to join us.
http://www.astronomerswithoutborders.org/news/1208-celebrate-peace-day-with-a-star-party-sept-21.html

4. SKYCUBE: A SATELLITE FOR EVERYONE
Astronomers Without Borders is partnering with Southern Skies, developers of the popular SkySafari apps for Apple and Android devices, to put a new satellite into orbit.  A nanosatellite whose "owners" contribute as little as one dollar, SkyCube will allow its thousands of supporters to send messages from space and take images looking back at Earth.  Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) member programs will use the satellite's unique capabilities, including its high visibility when it inflates a reflective balloon near the end of its mission.  Southern Skies will in turn donate up to 50% of proceeds from SkyCube donations made through Astronomers Without Borders back to AWB global programs.
http://www.astronomerswithoutborders.org/projects/skycube-satellite.html

5. REACH FOR THE STARS - AFGHANISTAN
A new Astronomers Without Borders project, Reach for the Stars - Afghanistan, has launched with the goal of establishing the first astronomy curriculum for young children in Afghanistan.  Created in collaboration with the Astronomical Association of Afghanistan, Reach for the Starts - Afghanistan will be based on Afghan culture, the countries rich heritage of Islamic astronomy, and modern science.  Schools, orphanages and refugee camps in and around Kabul will also receive scarce educational resources to be used in the programs.  Supporters are needed to bring the stars and science to the children of Afghanistan.
http://www.astronomerswithoutborders.org/projects/reach-for-the-stars-afghanistan.html

6. TELESCOPES TO TANZANIA
Telescopes to Tanzania (TtT), a successful program that brings scarce educational resources to one of the world's poorest countries, is now under the aegis of Astronomers Without Borders.  TtT is expanding the educational capacity of the teachers and schools of a country where a lack of basic resources means stronomy is taught without telescopes, chemistry without labs, geography without maps.  In the fall of 2012, TtT will expand its program with training sessions for 80 secondary and elementary teachers in the use of basic science equipment donated by the program, impacting the education of thousands of students.
Telescopes to Tanzania needs supporters to make this dream come true for as many teachers and students as possible.  The costs in Tanzania are very low by western standards, but far beyond what Tanzanians can afford.

22 September 2012

http://observethemoonnight.org

Greetings InOMN hosts! We are less than two weeks away from the 2012 International Observe the Moon Night! If you have not registered your event on the InOMN website, please do so as soon as possible at http://observethemoonnight.org/getInvolved/register_event.cfm. Register to get your event on the map!!

Want to know more about plans for the 2012 InOMN? Join InOMN director Brooke Hsu from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center on a live webcast this Wednesday, 12 September at 8pm US Eastern! Click the following link to join the webast: http://connect.arc.nasa.gov/hsu2012/. Two weeks ago, Brian Day from the NASA Ames Research Center discussed ways to observe the Moon and talked about specific features visible on the lunar surface during InOMN 2012. You can view a recording of Brian’s webcast at http://connect.arc.nasa.gov/p2lxncmb79a/.

Two weeks ago, the Center for Lunar Science and Exploration released an amazing virtual tour of the Moon’s surface: “The scenes in the video are so dramatic that you may find yourself reaching out to pick up a rock and becoming restless to walk among the lunar peaks.“ This video would make a great addition to any InOMN event!

The 2012 Certificate of Participation is now available on the InOMN website at http://observethemoonnight.org/materials/ (left-hand side of the page). Like last year, participant names can be typed onto the certificate before being printed.

Finally, evaluations for event hosts and for event participants are available on the InOMN website at http://observethemoonnight.org/materials/. Please take the time to fill out an event host survey after you event and please encourage your participants to complete a participant survey following the event. Both surveys are available online. The participant survey can be downloaded and printed out. We value any and all feedback you and your participants are able to provide. Your feedback helps keep events like International Observe the Moon Night return year after year.

Thank you so much for being a part of International Observe the Moon Night. We are looking forward to another successful year!

Best,
The International Observe the Moon Night Coordinating Committee

Opet ništa u Hrvatskoj. A baš smo neki.

Možda ih to pokrene!

Evo još jedne kratke obavijesti, a evo i jedne prijave iz Hrvatske za subotnje pokazivanje Mjeseca teleskopom:
>>>>>>>>

Greetings InOMN hosts! InOMN 2012 is just four days away. I hope you are as excited as we are! During this year’s event, many people will undoubtedly be thinking of Neil Armstrong, the first human to walk on the Moon. To celebrate his life and to pay tribute to this pioneer of space exploration, the 2012 International Observe the Moon Night is being dedicated to Neil Armstrong. In the spirit of the Armstrong family’s wish, we are encouraging participants in this year’s InOMN to “wink at the Moon.” We are strongly encouraging InOMN hosts to take pictures of their guest winking at the Moon and submit those pictures to us. A Flickr group has been set up as a central repository for these pictures. Please visit

http://observethemoonnight.org/getInvolved/armstrong/

for more information.

If you have not done so, please remember to register your event on the InOMN website at
http://observethemoonnight.org/getInvolved/register_event.cfm.

In case you missed the InOMN webcasts with Brian Day and Brooke Hsu, links to recordings can be found at

http://observethemoonnight.org/multimedia/webcastsVideo.shtml.

Thank you, all, for being a part of International Observe the Moon Night and helping to spread the excitement of lunar science and exploration.

Best regards,
The International Observe the Moon Night Coordinating Committee
